All things that glitter draw the eye, and jewelry tops this list. The love of jewelry pieces knows no social class or social boundary. There are the faux pieces of jewelry worn by children, the belly rings of teenagers, the class rings of college graduates, the engagement ring of newly engaged couples, the wedding ring of married couples, the heirloom jewels from the grandparents. Everyone is touched by the power and lure of this seemingly magical artwork. However, do people really appreciate jewelry as a work of art, or do people just regard jewelry pieces as embellishments?

Love of Jewelry: If the Price is Right

It is sad to note that jewelry as a form of art is actually taken for granted. The art in a jewelry piece is less noticed and less praised compared to the art in paintings and sculpture.

Sure, people will gaze in wonder at a four-carat diamond on an engagement ring. Certainly, people will notice if you wear a diamond tennis bracelet to your prom party. However, the appreciation for jewelry is almost always confined to the cost of the item and the prestige that goes with owning such an obviously expensive piece. The appreciation lies, therefore, not on the work and the artistry that goes into the production of the jewelry piece. It lies more on its weight, its size, and its prize tag.

This single-minded focus on the cost of jewelry as well as the neglect of the jewelry's form, design and details has taken away the appreciation for jewelry as a true form of art. Jewelry has regressed to nothing but an expensive and brazen wealth exhibit.

This disconnection from the true and pure meaning of jewelry can be attributed to the materialistic mindset that's prevalent today. Jewelry is viewed as a status symbol or an investment, thus the price of the jewelry is given more weight. Unless people learn to appreciate and give value to the artistry behind the design of the jewelry, true appreciation of the art of jewelry making may be slow to come by.

Aromatherapy uses the concentrated scented oils of plants to enhance the human state of mind or mood, and to encourage health and healing. Lavender, as an example, may be used to relax a person and promote sleep, while the scent of cinnamon is used as a motivator. Finding Aromatherapy Jewelry

Aromatherapy jewelry is not quite as common as candles and scented oils are. Not many stores stock these products so your best bet is to find a store with a New Age slant. These types of stores will often stock aromatherapy jewelry. Another option is to find privately owned store that carries aromatherapy products or to attend Renaissance type festivals where these types of products are often showcased. shopping online is also an option. EBay, as an example does often have aromatherapy products listed for sale. Wearing a locket or vial with your favorite scent is a good way of promoting good health, and can help lift your mood all day. It is a fun and very easy way to enjoy aromatherapy.

Chili Relleno Recipes - Chili Relleno Casserole Recipe

Whip up this chili relleno casserole when you're in the mood for a hearty Mexican meal night. Serve as is, or with a side of Spanish rice, tortilla chips and salsa.

2 (7 oz.) cans whole green chile peppers, drained

8 oz. Monterey Jack cheese, shredded

8 oz. Longhorn or Cheddar cheese, shredded

2 eggs, beaten

1 (5 oz.) can evaporated milk

2 tablespoons all purpose flour

1/2 cup milk

1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce or enchilada sauce

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.


Spray an 8x8-inch or 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.


Layer half of the chilies evenly on the bottom of the baking dish. Sprinkle half of the Jack and Cheddar cheese on top and cover with remaining chilies.


In a bowl, mix together the eggs, milk and flour. Pour over the top of chilies.


Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and pour the tomato sauce evenly over the top of casserole. Continue baking for another 15 minutes.


Sprinkle with remaining Jack and Cheddar cheese before serving.

These little bite-sized squares are perfect for company or potlucks.

3 cups Monterey Jack cheese, shredded

1 1/2 cups Cheddar cheese, shredded

2 (4 oz.) cans chopped green chilies, drained

2 eggs

2 tablespoons milk

1 tablespoon all purpose flour

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.


In a greased 8-inch square baking dish, layer the Jack and Cheddar cheeses in the bottom of the dish.


In a bowl, beat the eggs, Add in the milk and flour. Pour over cheese.


Bake for 30 minutes, or until set. Cut into small squares. Serve warm.

This isn't a traditional soufflé, but it has eggs and cheese and you can make it with no fuss. Serve with chunky salsa.

5 (4 oz.) cans mild whole green chilies

8 oz. Cheddar cheese, cut lengthwise

4 oz. Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese combo mix, cut lenghtwise

1 1/2 (12 oz.) cans refrigerated biscuits

3 egg whites, separated

3 egg yolks

1 small onion, diced

1 1/2 tablespoon olive oil

Chunky salsa

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.


Grease a casserole dish with 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil.


Open four cans of the green chilies. Cut chilies lengthwise and remove their seeds; drain on paper towels. Insert cheese pieces into the green chilies.


Separate the biscuits and roll each one out flat. Cover each chili with a biscuit and seal well. Place wrapped chilies inside a casserole dish and bake for 10 minutes, or until the dough is halfway cooked.


Remove the casserole from the oven. Cut the remaining chilies lengthwise and layer them down flat on top of each wrapped chili relleno.


In a pan, sauté the onion in 1 tablespoon of olive oil; place onions on top of chilies. Add remainig cheese on top.


In a bowl, beat the egg whites and fold them into the egg yolks. Spread egg mixture over the cheese layer. Bake another 15 minutes, or until golden brown.


Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Writing Mood

Does anyone remember Mood rings? Okay, so maybe I'm showing a little of my age but when I think about writing and setting the mood I can't help remembering mood rings.

When I was a little girl, my aunt gave me a mood ring. It was huge! I would wear it every minute of the day, and relied on it to tell me my mood. I don't remember at the moment what each color represented, but when the color changed I would announce to everyone what kind of mood I was in. That brings me to mood in writing. When you sit down to write that piece you are going to set a mood. Often our writing reflects our current mood, whether it's whimsical, sorrowful, fearful, or maybe even a sense of purpose. It has a mood. We may start out in one mood, but because of character development, plot, theme or setting, another mood may take over.

Reminds me of driving home from work the other day. It had been a very stressful day, and I was a little overwhelmed. Turning the radio on while driving down the rural roads I found a soft tune and rolled down the windows. The melody was soothing, and the warm air blowing through my hair helped me simmer down. I faintly mumbled the words of the song, absorbing the scenery along my drive. My travel took me past wooded areas as well as fields full of swaying greenery. I extended my arm out the window, letting my arm softly ride the breeze with the sweet beat of the music. It wasn't long before my mood changed. I was relaxed, completely at peace.

Within three minutes another song flowed through my speakers. A little rock 'n' roll energized me. My arm still extended outside the window, began surfing the wind like ocean waves. I bobbed my head with the beat, and belted out the verse. My speed picked up, as did my spirits. The soft, subtle fields became alive with stimulating feelings. I was driving the same road, but at that very moment the scenery took on a different meaning. It was invigorating.

My mood was altered several times during my drive because my emotions changed with each song. Can we do that to our readers? Definitely. We can begin with one mood and then bring our readers into another mood. Changing moods can be interesting. It also let's the reader experience different emotions. Imagine if my drive had ended with a patrol car pulling me over. That would have set a totally different mood. Whether we change moods or stick to one mood we don't want to come out and state the mood in our writing. We want the reader to 'feel' the mood instead of being told.

"Bob was happy when he read the good news."

The reader knows he is happy because it's plainly stated.

"Bob smiled reading the good news."

The reader didn't have to be told he was happy because he smiled conveying happiness.

"It was a dark spooky night."

Plainly stated. The author could have set the scene better, creating a better sense of the mood. The author could have written about 'ominous shadows', 'the shivers of fear', or anything to set the stage for the reader to feel the mood of the story.

Those are just some simple examples. Expressing and changing moods in a story can be much more than a mere sentence. It's all in the words you choose and how you present them to the reader. Don't tell the reader the mood just let them feel it through your words.
